Change Video Settings to Boost FPS
Although seeing your FPS on Overwatch 2 is helpful, video settings are some of the biggest game changers to help improve your FPS and overall gameplay in Overwatch 2. If you want the best match resolution and FPS, take a look at these settings:
Display Mode | Fullscreen |
Resolution | Native to Your PC |
Field of View | 103 |
Aspect Ratio | 16:9 |
Dynamic Render Scale | Off |
Render Scale | Custom (In-game Resolution 100%) |
Frame Rate | Automatic |
VSync | Off |
Triple Buffering | Off |
Reduce Buffering | On |
NVidia Reflex | Enabled |
Change In-Game Settings to Boost FPS
Depending on your PC and its optimization power, there are some generalized graphic settings you should consider when learning how to improve FPS in Overwatch.
Before going into your graphics settings, we highly recommend you play using fullscreen and choose the resolution that offers the highest FPS rates in your video settings. Here are the following settings to help boost your FPS numbers:
Graphics Quality | Low to Medium |
Texture Quality | High |
Texture Filtering Quality | Low x1 |
Local Fog Detail | Low |
Dynamic Reflections | Off |
Shadow Detail | Low |
Model Detail | Low |
Effects Detail | Low to Medium |
Lightning Quality | Low to Medium |
Antialias Quality | Low to Medium |
Refraction Quality | Low |
Ambient Occlusion | Low to Medium |
Local Reflections | Off |
It may take some tweaking and adjusting until you get these settings where you feel most comfortable. Depending on your graphics and processing power, you can raise the level of quality to have a more enjoyable UI while playing. Of course, keeping low texture filtering quality or low lighting quality will boost FPS, although may affect your preferred graphics settings.
Turn on Game Mode on Windows
Turning on Game Mode is a rather simple way to improve your FPS not only in Overwatch 2 but, quite frankly, in any other game you are playing. This mode can be easily activated by doing the following:
- Go to your PC settings and locate "Games"
- From here, go to the last option that states "Game Mode".
- Select the Mode to be turned ON.
Once you get this mode cracking, it will noticeably enhance your PC's FPS and overall performance, limiting its use of other background applications while you are in the game. This is one of the most useful and essential activations you should consider when trying to improve FPS in Overwatch 2.
Tip: Ensure the Overwatch 2 download is not directly onto your PC but on a separate drive or SSD, which helps increase FPS and overall loading times.
Adjust Image Settings on PC
Depending on the GPU your PC is supporting, some players who have continuous issues with dropped FPS rates will go into their GPU's control panel and adjust the graphics settings. For example, if you have NVIDIA, you can right-click anywhere and "show more options" where you will see "NVIDIA Control Panel". From here, you can do the following:
- Navigate to "adjust image settings with preview".
- Now click on "Use the Advanced 3D Image Settings"
From here, you can also "adjust your 3D Image Settings," which we give some examples from our image of what we prefer these settings. However, this is completely up to you, depending on how much you are wanting to change.
Overall, keeping native resolution and disabling additional Windows features will greatly help your FPS rates in Overwatch 2 (Especially if you want to rock one of the hardest Overwatch 2 heroes!). Whether you choose default texture quality or fullscreen target display, everything matters when you are adjusting graphic settings or in-game settings. Just ensure you have some important features such as game mode activated before adjusting in-game features.
