Strong support heroes are essential to winning games in Overwatch 2, and a balanced hero that heals allies while dealing damage to enemies is crucial to team balance. This Moira hero guide will help you play Moira O'Deorain more effectively.
Moira's Abilities
Biotic Grasp (Primary Fire)
Moira's main healing source, the Biotic Grasp sprays a healing mist in front of her. The Biotic Grasp can heal allies in a small area and is one of the fastest and best healing abilities in the game. Moira expends biotic energy to heal, consuming it like ammo. Once you run out of biotic energy, you need to use the Biotic Grasp secondary fire to damage enemies or wait in order to recharge it.

Biotic Grasp (Secondary Fire)

Moira's Biotic Grasp also comes with a secondary fire that damages enemies in the form of a beam. The damage dealt heals Moira, boosting her survivability while it saps away nearby enemies' health. Additionally, the Biotic Grasp recharges Moira's biotic energy while it does damage to enemies.

Biotic Orb (Primary Fire)

Moira sends her Biotic Orb through her primary fire, which heals nearby allies in an area around the orb. The orb moves quickly when not healing, but tethers to the nearby allies, slowing down the orb so they can absorb health more quickly. The only downside is it sometimes can bounce off walls in a direction you don't want.

Biotic Orb (Secondary Fire)

One of the most hated abilities in the game, the Biotic Orb sends a purple orb that damages nearby enemies. The Biotic Orb then tethers onto one or a group to deal damage over time.
The most frustrating part of the Biotic Orb ability for the enemy team is the randomness of a rebounding Biotic Sphere. Moira can throw biotic orbs into places, and unintentionally get eliminations she didn't mean.

Fade

Fade makes Moira one of the slipperiest heroes in the game. For a temporary time, Moira disappears from the battlefield. In that time, she can move at a fast speed, becomes invulnerable, and cleanses herself of any damage or time effects.

Coalescence (Ultimate Ability)

Coalescence is a great Ultimate ability that both heals allies and damages enemies at the same time. Moira releases a long range beam weapon that consumes biotic energy to massively heal allies, and deal burst damage to enemies in front of her while healing herself. The downside, though, is that Moira can't use Fade, so she is vulnerable to slowing effects and, enemy ultimate abilities.

Moira's Playstyle
Moira is one of the best healers in the game if used correctly. There is a school of thought that there are two playstyles that Moria can follow: DPS Moria or healing Moria. However, to use Moira to her maximum, you need to balance her healing and damage outputs.
Moira's Tips and Tricks
A balance of healing and damage is one of the fundamental building blocks to keep your team alive while getting crucial eliminations. Here are some tips and tricks for playing Moira more effectively.
- Balance damage and healing abilities. If you aren't damaging nearby enemies, you won't have your healing abilities topped up the next time you use them. However, relying too much on dealing damage will almost always put your team at a disadvantage. If we want to win team fights, we need to be a healing Moira.
- Wait to pop Coalescence at the best times. Throw in a damage orb and keep an eye on the enemies in front of you. If you see several low-health enemies, your Coalescence will cut through them. Additionally, if the enemy team uses a big Ultimate ability, like Reinhardt's Earthshatter or Zarya's Graviton Surge, Coalescence healing mist will be able to get your allies through the ultimate to survive the team fight.
- Spam the Biotic Orb at the beginning of fights. Throwing the biotic orb around corners where you think an enemy team will be so that it damages enemies is a great way to get them out of position, giving your team the advantage in team fights. Once you're in the thick of it, though, save your healing biotic orb until you really need it. Using a damage orb at the wrong time can make or break a fight.
- Escape with Fade. You'll hear negative status effects like Tracer's Pulse Bomb, Ana's Biotic Grenade, or Reinhardt's Earthshatter. Using Fade to avoid
negative effects, then heal your teammates who were affected by it.
- Use Biotic Grasp's healing ability in short bursts. If you've won a team fight or have a bit of cover, conserve your biotic energy meter from your primary fire ability. Giving short bursts of healing will conserve some of that biotic energy in case you need it later.
- A healing Biotic Orb bypasses barriers. Tanks like Winston, Reinhardt, or Sigma may be between you and your teammates. The Biotic be, though, can travel through enemy barriers. Send a bouncing sphere in their direction to heal allies stuck in dangerous areas.
Moira's Lore
Born in Dublin, Ireland before the Omnic Crisis, scientist Moira O'Deorain joined Talon in the present-day Overwatch universe with the goal of unlocking human potential through genetic engineering. Her ideas and experiments led her to believe that she could alter DNA in order to produce artificial evolutionary advancement.

From the outside world, scientists were outraged by Moira's ideas on genetic evolution. These perceived ethical shortfalls caused the scientific collective to ban Moira O'Deorain's research. Though she was blacklisted nearly all over the world, Overwatch's Covert Ops Division gave her an offer by creating custom genetic programs. There, Moira was able to run her genetic engineering experiments, and rumors had it that she was responsible for Reaper's regenerative effect and simultaneous decay effect. Eventually, though, an incident in Venice, Italy caused Overwatch to eventually disband.

Though the scientific collective banished Moira, she eventually moved to Oasis to be the Minister of Genetics for Talon, a terrorist organization including Reaper and Doomfist. There, Moira O'Deorain could run experiments based on maximizing human potential. She was allowed to indulge in her unchecked desire for scientific advancement. Moira's research with Talon was largely done in secret, and much of her scientific advancement is still a mystery.
