How to Play on Mac Overwatch 2

Unfortunately for most Mac users, Overwatch 2 hasn't been released for the computer's operating system (OS). Many people believed the developers at Blizzard would release the game for Mac computers, but they only released it on consoles like the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 & 5, and Xbox One & Series x/s and Windows OS.

Though Blizzard hasn't announced a Mac variant of Overwatch 2, the good news is there are some workarounds that you can use to play Overwatch on Mac.

Download Boot Camp to install Windows

Boot Camp offers an easy and inexpensive fix for most Mac users to run Windows. Through the free software, you can play Overwatch on the Windows partition on Intel Macs.

Boot Camp Assistant

The way Boot Camp works is it splits your Intel Mac hard drive into two separate "partitions," one for the already installed macOS, and then installing Windows on the other. After you have windows installed, you can freely download Overwatch and play the game.

Some believe that Boot Camp is the inferior option, as you can't access your Mac applications while you're running Windows. However, with the processing power generally weaker on a Mac computer versus a gaming PC, it is better that your Mac device is only using its computing power on power-hungry apps like Overwatch.

Boot Camp Assistant comes pre installed on your Mac, and is the free option to play Overwatch on Mac computers. Here are the steps you need to take to play Overwatch with Boot Camp:

  1. Check your Secure Boot setting - you want to have it on Full Security before installing Windows.
  2. Under your Utilities folder in your Applications folder, open and run BootCamp Assist. Then, create a Windows partition.Partitian - Boot Camp

Parallels 12 can only be used to play Overwatch for Apple Silicon Macs, as the game will not load on M1 and M2 Macs. Additionally, this is not a free option, as it requires a paid subscription.

What your Mac needs to play Overwatch

Though you may finally have the operating system needed to play Overwatch on Mac, your computer needs a lot of gear for the game to run smoothly. Here are the recommended Mac specs to run Overwatch even at the minimum graphics settings:

  • Windows 7/8.1/10
  • Intel Core i3 processor
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 460/ATI Radeon HD 4850/Intel HD Graphics 4400
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 30GB of storage space

Playing Overwatch requires heavy-duty system requirements. To be able to play Overwatch on Mac, you may need to adjust your game settings to the lowest for it to run with decent fps. However, installing a new graphics card will likely not be an option, as Apple has essentially made it impossible to upgrade your own computers.
