So here's a scenario. You're playing an intense Roblox game like Arsenal. The finish line is near, and you're being tailed by an opponent. Either you make it or break it. The crowd roars as they see you about to finish first, but suddenly the game glitches and you're in second place.
These situations are common when you have a high ping. Terming the experience as frustrating would be an understatement. However, before you curse at your ISP, there may be easier remedies. So the question stands: how to find high ping in Roblox?
In this guide, we will discuss some of the best-proven ways to fix high ping without spending a hefty load of money. So without further ado, let's get to business.
Clear DNS Cache To Fix Roblox High Ping Issues
The DNS cache is essentially a database that keeps track of IP addresses and hostnames you visited. If it builds up and isn't cleared routinely, there is a high likelihood of DNS Cache affecting your network connection. This, in turn, will decrease your ping. The simplest remedy for this is the obvious one; delete the DNS cache.
To flush DNS:
First click on the start menu and search for "cmd"
Upon finding a black icon with the name "Command Prompt"
Then run it as administrator.
- Now, here's where things get a bit technical. One by one, type the following commands in the command prompt and press enter each time:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset
Once you are done with all of them, the hard part is done.
Now simply restart your computer, and your DNS cache should have cleared.
Now check your ping in Roblox and see if it has improved.
Background Processes
Ah, yes. Good ol' background processes waiting to feast on your RAM and bandwidth. While most of the time, it should not be an issue, a handful of bandwidth-heavy apps may be leeching off your internet connection while you play Roblox. This can cause high ping in Roblox.
Therefore to fix Roblox's high ping, you will need to close these unnecessary apps.
To do this:
First press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys together. This should open the task manager. Make sure that the "Processes" tab is opened.
Click on "Network" and this should sort all the running processes by order of bandwidth they are consuming.
All you need to do now is close the apps that have a significant percentage by clicking on "End Task".
Change Firewall Settings
Windows defender firewall acts as a gateway between the incoming and outgoing network traffic. Essentially, it filters this data to make sure that malware or virus do not creep into your computer. As you may have guessed, filtering and scanning network traffic can have a toll on your ping when playing Roblox.
To fix this issue:
Simply open Windows Defender Firewall by searching for it in the start menu.
Now select the option, "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall".
You will need administrator access for this, so click on "Change Settings" and search for Roblox.
Once you find it, click on the checkbox next to it. If you're using a home network, then also tick the checkbox next to "Private". Otherwise, do it for the "Public".
Finally, click "OK" to save changes, and you should be good to go.
Note, however, that the Firewall is there for your computer's safety. We do not recommend enabling this option for games from third-party sources that are not trusted in the community. You can also do a similar process with Antivirus software as they may be monitoring traffic as well, thus lag spikes.
Restart Internet Connection
A lot of times, incorrect network configuration and other issues related to the modem can cause lag spikes.
The primary remedy to fix your internet connection is first to try and restart the router or modem. You can do this by shutting down the router and waiting for around a minute to start it again. This will clear the previous cache.
Secondly, you can try and limit the users on the network. It may be that a lot of people are using the same network for a plethora of bandwidth-heavy apps. This could be the primary reason for the ping issues. You can try and disconnect devices from the internet connection that are on standby.
Use Ethernet Cable
To take things to the next level, we suggest using an ethernet cable instead. This will likely boost your internet connection and definitely affect the ping since compared to wireless connections, an ethernet cable is much faster.
Use VPN Service
Sometimes, IP addresses can be the main issue, and the remedy is quite simple; simply use a VPN connection.
Essentially, it is a virtual private network, that will connect you to a host IP address from a different location. This is likely to fix the issue of high ping in Roblox but may come at the expense of a slow internet connection. Nevertheless, if you have a stable connection, then it should barely affect your bandwidth speed.
Additionally, you may have to swap between VPN servers until you find the best one. This may take a while but will be well worth it to fix the Roblox high ping issue.
In the end, if all the above-mentioned do not savor your desired ping, then you can always complain to your internet service provider or change the ISP altogether.
Use Port Range Suited For Roblox
Another way to decrease your ping is by using ports.
The port range for Roblox is UDP 49152 - 65535. If you use ports between these, then you are likely to get a better ping.
To change ports:
First open Windows Device Manager and click on Multi-port Serial Adapters
Now, select and right-click on Adapter.
Select Properties and open the Ports Configuration tab
Now navigate and click on Port Settings
Now enter an appropriate port number between the one mentioned and select OK.
Update Drivers and Software
Many times, outdated software and drivers can be the cause of high ping. This includes network adapter drivers, graphic card drivers, or Roblox itself. By updating your drivers, you will be able to deal with crashes as well
It is advised to make sure all these drivers and software are up to date. You can start by first reinstalling the drivers automatically using the device manager. You can do it manually as well from their official websites and then update the game itself.
Lower Graphics Quality To Fix High Ping In Roblox
Yes, you heard us correctly. While it may seem unintuitive at first, several players have reported that lowering the graphics quality can be an effective remedy for Roblox ping issues.
To lower the graphics quality, open Roblox and start the game platform. Now press the Esc key. This will open the settings menu. Select "Graphics Mode" and toggle the setting from Automatic to Manual.
You can now, change the graphics quality as per your liking. In this case, we suggest lowering it, a level at a time, and seeing the ping. If the results seem satisfactory, then you don't need to lower the graphics any further.
We suggest trying to keep a balanced setting so you do not over-compromise on ping or graphics settings. Additionally, this will also improve FPS in Roblox. If you are still facing low FPS, check out how to improve Roblox FPS.
