Using Their Discord Username

The easiest and best way to find someone on Discord is by using their Discord username. All Discord users have a unique username to distinguish themselves from others.

You can find someone’s Discord username in two ways:

1. Not in Friend List or Mutual Server: You can ask them in person for their Discord username

2. In Friend List or Mutual Server: You can right-click on their name on Discord, go to their Profile, and find their username under their display name

Once you have their Discord username, you can add them as friends by entering their username in the Add Friend menu and sending a friend request.

Back then, Discord usernames would be in the form of a username and a four-digit number at the back, like yuh#2617. However, in 2023, Discord released an update allowing players to set their Discord tag to whatever they wanted without the four-digit tag.

Using Their Discord User ID

The following method to find someone on Discord is something not too many people know about, and that’s by grabbing their Discord User ID.

This method requires you to get into Discord’s Developer Mode, which may sound a little intimidating, but the process is easier than you think.

We’ll break down the process into two parts:

1. Getting access to Discord’s Developer Mode

2. Getting someone’s Discord User ID

Now that you’ve gotten Discord’s Developer Mode, you can get someone’s Discord User ID.

Getting someone’s Discord User ID

Unlike a Discord username, a User ID is very hard to memorize, so it’s almost impossible to ask someone in person for their User ID. So, the only way to get it is by being on the same Discord server or having them in your Friend’s List. If you have met the criteria, then follow the steps below:

1. Right-click on their Discord name

2. A lot of options will pop up

3. Click on Copy User ID at the very bottom

Now, their User ID will be copied to your clipboard. You can press Control + V anywhere, like a notepad, to paste their User ID.

To find someone using their Discord ID, you can go to your Direct Messages tab and paste their Discord ID into the search bar.

You can also use their User IDs for Discord Bots you've added to your server, such as banning, reporting or muting users on your server. Additionally, a person’s User ID on their Discord account will never change. Once you grab someone’s Discord ID, you can use the same ID to track them even if they change their Discord username or display name.

Using Your Phone Contacts

Now, you can find your friends on Discord by giving the application permission to access your phone contacts. That way, Discord will help you find your friends, and allow your friends to find you too!

To make use of this feature, follow these steps below:

1. Launch Discord on Mobile

2. Go to your Friends tab

3. Click on the Find Your Friends button (Mobile phone with a +)

4. Click on Get Started

5. Allow permissions for Discord

6. Continue with the on-screen instructions

7. See your contacts on Discord when everything is ready

Now, you can see which of your phone contacts are on Discord, and easily add them!

If someone from your contacts added you on Discord, all you need to do is to accept the Discord friend request!

Using The Nearby Scan Feature 

Another new method to find someone on Discord is using a Mobile feature called the Nearby Scan. If you are with a friend in real life and want to get their Discord contact, you can use Bluetooth and WiFi to get their contact immediately.

This method is a great way to find someone on Discord without their username or ID. 

The Nearby Scan feature can be found by following these steps:

1. Launch Discord on Mobile

2. Go to your Friends tab

3. Click on the Add Friend button (Person with a +)

4. Click the Nearby Scan feature

5. Ensure Bluetooth is on and you are connected to a WiFi connection

Now, you must get the other person to follow the same steps. Once both of you are scanning, Discord will pair you up and provide the Discord contacts.
