League of Legends bugs are a dime a dozen, but as far as they go the unexpected login error is a relatively tame one, as it tends to go away on its own. If it does not just follow these simple steps to take care of that issue.

Resetting the LoL Client

League of Legends is getting patched all the time, and yet the one thing Riot Games don't seem to plan on fixing is the League of Legends Client. So, the first suspect cause of the unexpected login error is the bug found in the boot-up process via the task manager. All you have to do is redo the process itself:

  1. Press ALT+F4
  2. Sign Out
  3. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager
  4. Terminate all League of Legends processes
  5. Open Riot Games Client
  6. Sign Back In

Once that is done, the boot-up processes should be reset, and the issue should have gone away. That is, of course, if the cause was the bug in the first place or any of the processes in the task manager.

Resetting Network Settings

As the game client works off of worldwide servers, one of the causes may be a faulty internet connection. Luckily it is a simple enough thing to reset, not even needing you to step away from your computer:

  1. Right-click the Start Button
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Network & Internet
  4. Click on Network Reset Under Advanced Settings
  5. Reset Network settings
  6. Restart your PC

Once you've completed all of these if there was an issue with your internet the League of Legends unexpected error should be resolved.

Resetting Your DNS Server Adress

The League of Legends login error can also be caused by an issue with your DNS. That is, the connection it carries. The fix League of Legends login error needs is a reset and getting an alternate DNS server:

  1. Open Run by pressing Windows+R keys.
  2. Type in ncpa.cpl and click OK
  3. Right-click the network adapter and select Properties.
  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  5. Tick the Use the following DNS server addresses option.
  6. Type in in the Preferred DNS server.
  7. Type in in the Alternate DNS server
  8. Save changes by pressing OK
  9. Restart your PC
