How To Merge Accounts in Fortnite [Updated Guide]

There is no longer any way to merge two Epic Games accounts into one account. In November 2018, Epic Games did grant players the option to merge two separate Fortnite accounts; however, according to a statement made by Epic Games themselves, that option has since been banned

The ban was set into effect on May 6, 2019, leaving cross-play as the only remaining option to use your Fortnite accounts across different platforms.

What Did Merging Accounts Do?

Players were super psyched when Epic Games added the merging feature because it allowed them to combine two accounts from multiple platforms like Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Just by following a couple steps, players could merge accounts so that they could access their V-Bucks, skins, and other items all in one Epic Games account.

Why Was the Account Merging Feature Removed?

Despite how beneficial account merging was for many Fortnite players, unfortunately, some used the opportunity to violate the Epic Games official Terms of Service. Not even a year after the feature was added, it was brought to Epic Games' attention that players were using account merging as a means of buying and selling Fortnite accounts.

It kind of goes without saying that buying and selling accounts created under someone else's identity is strongly prohibited; however, that didn't stop people from doing so.

Once Epic Games found out about these actions, they began placing bans on the players who violated the terms. Though that didn't bring a stop to the buying and selling of accounts, they chose to remove the feature altogether.

Did Any Pro Players Buy & Sell Fortnite Accounts?

FaZe Tfue banned from Fortnite

Fans of the former Twitch streamer and pro-Fortnite player, FaZe Tfue, know that it's no secret that he has had his share of past controversies. One of those controversies was in July 2018, when it was brought to Epic Games' attention via Twitter that Tfue had been buying and selling accounts through Fortnite's account merging feature.

It was later confirmed on a Reddit thread by an employee of Epic Games, who confirmed that Tfue was in fact buying and selling accounts due to the rare skins that were available on them. This led to Tfue receiving a permanent ban on his Epic Games account.

Will Fortnite Account Merge Be Added Again

Since Epic Games' statement regarding the removal of Fortnite account merging, they have been silent on the matter. That being said, we just don't know yet if they will decide to add the feature back in the future; however, given the circumstances of why it was removed, it's probably safe to assume they will not add it back.

Additionally, since the ban, Fortnite has received multiple quick updates and continues to do so. If Epic Games did decide to bring account merging back sometime in the future, more features would have to be added. Nonetheless, until any future information regarding account merging is released, it's best to stick with cross-play or just create a new Fortnite account on a different platform.
