Best Light Source In Minecraft

Thinking of building amazing structures and houses, then how could you forget to add the light source to them. Besides keeping the mob away, the light source beautifies your build. There are over 60 light sources in Minecraft and they range from 0 to 15 levels of light intensity. 15 level is the highest with the widest light range.

In Minecraft Overworld, you can get light from two major sources, one is the sun as a natural source and the second is the blocks that emit light of their own.

Lantern

Lantern is on the first number in our list because of its beautiful structure and high light intensity. It looks way cooler than a simple torch. You can hang them on walls with iron rods or you can hang them with the fence.

Crafting a lantern is easy you just need one torch and 8 iron ingots. Place the torch in the center of the crafting table and fill the rest of the 8 boxes with the iron ingots. You will get one lantern on the right side. If we talk about the light intensity, the lantern is on the top with 15 levels of light intensity.

Campfire

If you have a beautiful garden in front of our house or you have built an outdoor rest area, you can’t avoid the campfire. Campfire is also best to keep the mob away if you are in the beginning of the game. Campfire is the second-best light source with respect to intensity. It also has a light of 15 levels.

Crafting a campfire requires 3 wood logs, 3 sticks, and one coal or charcoal. You have to place one coal or charcoal in the middle of the crafting table then place three wood logs into the bottom row. Now place one stick on the top one right and one on the left side of the coal. You will get a campfire on the right side of the crafting table.

Jack O Lantern

Jack-o-lantern is made with the spooky pumpkin block. These spooky blocks are used in the crops as a decoration or sign. Jack-o-lantern is simple and easy to craft. Just place a spooky pumpkin and a torch under it on the crafting table.

Glowstone

Shroomlight is a self-glowing light block. You can get it by constantly hitting it until it drops. You can faster the process by using a hoe.

Sea Pickles

Sea pickles are obtained from the sea or oceans as they spawn in the ocean. These pickles have their own glowing light. You can use the bone meal to grow more sea pickles. The sea pickles only glow underwater. The best thing about these sea pickles is their ability to provide different luminous levels.

Candles

Candles were added as a new light source in Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs update for both Java and Bedrock Edition last year (2021) in June. Candlelight can also be increased by stacking up to four candles. You can craft a candle using one piece of string on the top of bee wax on the crafting table.

Sea Lantern

These stone blocks produce light of 15 levels. You can also craft the Sea lanterns using 5 4 Prismatic Crystals on each corner of the crafting table and fill the rest of the 5 empty spaces with Prismatic Shards. These sea lanterns work both underwater and on land.

Conduit

The conduits are another powerful light source in Minecraft. The conduits can be crafted using the prismarine shard and eye of enderman. You can find these blocks on the ocean floor.

The conduits emit light of 15 levels which is the highest on this list. The only problem with conduits is that they need to be activated with the help of Redstone power. But once they are turned on, they can keep your area well lit for a long time by emitting a constant light.

Beacon

If you want to indicate your home or spawn point you can use the beacon on the Minecraft. The beacon projects the light beam straight up to the sky. Beacon is hard to get that is why it is the player’s least choice. But it is an extremely bright light in your Minecraft world.

Beacon is a great light source with a light level of 15. You can craft it using one Nether start in the center of the crafting table and place three obsidians on the lower row. Now add 5 glass blocks to the remaining empty boxes.

End Rod

The End rods are glowing rods just like the Redstone torches. These end rods can be crafted by placing one Chorus fruit under one Blaze rod on the crafting table. You can hang them just like the lantern or place them on the different blocks

The end rods produce light of 14 levels. Which is still considerably higher. They are unbreakable just like the torches. After detaching them from the supporting block, you can just put them back into your inventory.

Glow Lichen

Glow Lichen are small and cute plants that were added in Minecraft 1.18 update. They are bigger and more beautiful in the latest 1.19 June 2023 update. Glow lichens are the best decorative blocks to be used in the hallways of your home.

You can find them on the cave walls during mining and can be seen from a distance as they are light-emitting blocks. They can emit a light level of 7. Because of this low light glow lichens are hot and considered as one of the best Minecraft light sources.

Glow Berries

Glow barries are another beautiful light source in Minecraft. They are found in the Lush Caves which are added to Minecraft in the 1.18 update. You can find these barriers hanging from the cave roof and glowing. You can collect them even with bare hands and hand them on different blocks.

Glow berries have light emission of 14 levels. These barriers can keep the hostile mobs away from your house. You can create beautiful garden lights with the help of these barriers. The good news is that you don't need Redstone to power them up.

Torch

When it comes to mining or going for an adventure in the deep dark, the torch is the essential tool to add to your adventure kit. Torch is the cheapest and easily available light source. You can create a torch by simply placing the coal or charcoal on the top of the stick on your crafting table.

You can place this torch on different blocks or hand them to see in the dark. The good part about torches is that you can use them again after picking them up from the place.  There are different types of torches like Redstone torch, soul torch, and coal torch. Torch emits the light of 14 levels.
