So you were doing something Epic Games looks down on. Don’t worry! We won’t judge you for your Fortnite ban. We understand the temptation to break some of the many rules Epic Games code of conduct includes. Rather than shame you for misbehaving, we’re here to help!
How To Get Around an IP Ban in Fortnite
There are a couple kinds of bans in Fortnite. The first of the two bans is an IP Fortnite ban, which is the easiest Fortnite ban to get around. An IP ban is when Epic Games places a restriction on your IP address, which doesn’t allow anyone on your internet connection access Fortnite Battle Royale.
The second type of ban is called a hardware id ban (HWID ban). HWID bans are more difficult to work around. HWID bans are when Epic Games bans your PC directly, instead of your internet connection. While HWID bans are more difficult to beat, we still have a method that might work!
Here’s how to get around a Fortnite IP ban:
- Install a Virtual Private Network (VPN). There are free VPN services that can get the job done, but we recommend you get one of the best VPNs like NordVPN.
- Connect to a VPN server.
- Make a new Epic Games account, and open Fortnite to try out your unban.
Ideally, you’ll be allowed to connect to the Fortnite servers, and your Fortnite account will be unbanned. In which case you can hop into your favorite Fortnite 1v1 map and get back to playing Fortnite with your friends!
Unfortunately, that may not be the case. If you did the above steps and still find yourself banned there’s a good chance you’re dealing with a Fortnite HWID ban.

How To Get Around a HWID Ban in Fortnite
Unfortunately, a simple flick of a switch on a VPN service won’t get you around a HWID ban. There are a few ways Fortnite players have managed to beat a HWID ban. Some players have found success pleading to Tim Sweeney and the Fortnite game developers to unban them through customer support.
You can simply open a ticket submission form with your Fortnite account email address, and tell Epic Games why you should get unbanned from Fortnite. However, the pleading to Fortnite Epic Games you are not guaranteed to get unbanned from Fortnite.
Additionally, some gamers have reported success with HWID spoofers to alter their hardware id and make themselves undetectable. HWID spoofers are kind of like VPN services for your hardware id instead of IP address.
While both of those methods have some merit, we’ll get you released from your account ban without installing any hardware id spoofers, and you won’t have to contact customer support either!
Here is how to get unbanned from Fortnite HWID bans:
- Install a fresh Windows system.
- Replace your hard drive. Unfortunately, you will have to completely replace your hard drive to get around a HWID ban, since they can carry indications of a HWID ban.
- Make a new Fortnite account.
Once you’ve made a new account, go ahead and run Fortnite to see if your account ban has been lifted. If your ban is lifted, we hope you have fun dropping from the battle bus again!
Only PCs need to deal with HWID bans. Epic Games can only serve Fortnite IP bans to gamers on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or Fortnite mobile through the Google Play Store and app store.
