How to Play Scythe: Tips and Tricks

Neutral game

Gaining the advantage is your primary objective during the neutral game. Scythe is an excellent weapon to achieve advantage over the enemy. The weapon has strong aerial capabilities, with a grappling attack that moves the opponent away from you.

1

Play around dodge reads to maximize the damage done. Scythe can easily 0 to 100 an opponent, and your primary focus should be to throw the enemy offstage and put him in a dangerous situation. Playing grounded can also be done: use sLights or dLight to catch the enemy and dodge read into a quick combo.

Offstage Game

Offstage can be an opportunity. The scythe has a great variety of attacks that can reverse your situation quite easily and turn a dangerous situation into a quick kill.

2

Use the dAir to juggle the enemy around and play around the high push factor of the scythe to keep the enemy at bay while floating through the air. The recovery can also be quite useful. Use it when far away from the stage or on an enemy wall hugging to gain the advantage.

Edgeguarding

Edgeguarding with the scythe is a matter of timing. Plating floaty is suggested, as the nAir or the dAir are great at sending an opponent flying.

3

Read the enemy movements. Your approach should be related to the position of the opponents.

nLight

4

Scythe’s setup for aerial combos. Has no active input, and has fixed force

sLight

5

Has active input. Scythe’s standard opener, has fixed force with no input, while it throws people further with input.

DLight

6

Longest light move on Scythe. Has active input, pushes people further away. No input, it does a reversal.

nAir

7

Diagonal upwards grab, has active input. You can choose the direction you want to throw your enemy at (left or right). Very low force, so it’s not useful by itself.

sAir

8

sAir is one of the main kill moves for Scythe players. It’s a good string finisher, or to edgeguard

dAir

9

Same as nAir, scythe’s dAir is a diagonal grab but downwards. You can choose the direction you want to throw your enemy at (left or right). Medium to high force, can put pressure in edgeguarding or offstage positions, or used to bounce the enemy on the wall.

Ground Pound

10

Scythe’s GP is its weakest move. Decent kill potential, but its slow falling speed and its narrow hitbox make it very situational.

Recovery

11

Scythe’s recovery is one of the worst ones. Low range, small hitbox, and very punishable if the enemy doesn’t get caught in it. Use it carefully.

Best Brawlhalla Scythe combos and strings

sLight>dLight

Good opener on scythe while the opponent is at 0 damage. Both attacks need to be the active inputs ones.

sLight>mLight

Standard opener for strings, after the nLight you wait and see how the opponent reacts, and then punish them later in the game.

nLight>nAir

Scythe’s main way to get people off the ground. You can then follow up with different strings.

EXTENSIONS

Scythe’s biggest strength is its capacity to snowball an engagement. For example, after hitting a sLight>nAir, you can easily follow up with a nAir>sAir>Chase dodge dAir.

Scythe Tactics

With scythe you can string any move into almost any other move. You have a punish against any type of dodgers, so once you learned your combos you can focus on dodge reading the enemy, and punishing accordingly. Your kills from scythe come mainly from the signature attacks of your character, but you can also gimp your opponent to death offstage, or with sAirs and recoveries.
