Best Irelia Build Guide | Runes | Spells | Items in League of Legends

Irelia is one of the best top lane champions to carry games, and annoy enemies with your overpowered nature. She can even be played in the mid lane, if you get autofilled by Riot Games. These are the best Irelia build, runes, spells, items League of Legends can offer her, and her greatest counters.

Best Irelia Build

Irelia is not as complicated to play as she seems, but she is by no means a simple champion to play. She is reserved for more experienced players.

1

Best Irelia Runes

As a top lane fighter champion, whose strength lies in hitting enemies with her damage and mobility, Irelia’s abilities are used to bring the pain to the enemy, with their stacking and refreshes.

Irelia’s abilities allow her to quickly stack the Conqueror rune, and thus heal back the health she loses in an early game trade, for the duration her passive needs to stack up as well, while Triumph lets her survive a close fight.

Last Stand is there to allow her to deal even more damage, because while playing Irelia, you must fight in the frontline without the advantages afforded to the pure tank champions, and your only survival tool being your healing, which is countered by a large enough burst damage.

Last Stand

As expected, to help along her early game trades with other top lane champions, as the second best Irelia runes are Resolve.

Bone plating helps with enemy combos having reduced damage, allowing her to fight for longer against enemy champions, as attacking enemy champions refreshes her Q, should they be marked.

Best Irelia Rune Shards

Irelia needs all the help she can get, to syngergize with her skills and get an early game advantage. So, additional attack speed to quickly stack her passive is always welcome.

As damage dealing champion, she thus chooses Adaptive Force as her second Rune Shard, for early game trades.

And, as most champions in the top lane deal physical damage, her last Rune Shard is Armor.

Best Irelia Spells

When it comes to Summoner Spells, there are only a few champions who are managing League of Legends trials, without using Flash. Those are Shaco or Tryndamere. For Irelia, Flash is a must-have, as Flash is, without a doubt, the best Summoner Spell in the game, overall, and Irelia does not have a free dash.

Teleport

Teleport, on the other hand, is the usual pick for champions that can achieve kills by relying on their own kit. So, it’s used to achieve lane dominance with a cheater’s recall or to make a good Teleport play elsewhere. Though Irelia mid takes Ignite, due to the difference in opponents.

2

Best Irelia Abilities Order

The first ability to level on Irelia, out of her ability order, is her Q - Bladesurge. With it, you can easily proc your passive on an enemy champion, and stacking her passive. Both can be done on minions as well, and should you kill minions with your Q it resets and heals Irelia.

After that, the next ability in her skill order is her W - Defiant Dance, which is used to counter the enemy retaliation in lane, as well as tank enemy burst damage, as it gives Irelia a massive physical damage reduction buff, after which her blades explode, for lack of a better term, in a direction of her choosing.

3

Finally, besides Irelia’s ultimate, we have her E - Flawless Duet. It sends out two blades, one at a time, marking enemy champions and stunning them.

And, as always, Irelia’s Ultimate - Vanguard’s Edge, must be leveled at levels 6, 11, and 16. It’s the ability that allows her to get officially involved in a team fight, and have it be an optimal choice, as it slows and marks enemy champions hit.

Best Irelia Items

Irelia top is meant to take on the front line of the enemy team, and deal damage to the enemy backline through them. As Irelia heavily relies on healing and damage, team fights where she can fight multiple champions and sow chaos, while stacking bonus attack speed and movement speed in the process is her jam. And her items reflect this.

Best Starter Irelia Items

Irelia is a damage-dealing top lane champion, and as such, starts out with a Doran’s Blade, for the AD and omnivamp. And, of course, a Health Potion.

Best Mid Game Irelia Items

In the mid-game, if you’ve played the laning phase correctly, your core build should be ready. It consists of a non-negotiable Immortal Shieldbow as a Mythic Item, for the healing, shield and added damage, Plated Steelcaps, and Blade of the Ruined King.

Immortal Shieldbow

Irelia is one of the rare champions that doesn’t buy her mythic item first. instead, she buys Blade of the Ruined King, as it synergizes far too well with her kit, and offers her early game kill potential over tanks in her lane.

4

Best Final Late Game Irelia Items

Irelia is a champion that can definitel scale and carry during the late-game. She needs the proper items to do so, though.

Aside from her core items, her last three items all have their own purpose as well, and most of it is defensive.

Death’s Dance is an item which, aside from AD, allows Irelia to outheal the damage dealt to her with its passive, while Guardian Angel is there in case she is the primary carry.

Wit’s End is the only one shoe damage is the main focus, as its ability synergizes with her passive, and deals bonus magic damage on-hit.

Strongest Champions Against Irelia

The Blade dancer loses against champions that outheal her early game power, and can easily punish her in return.
