Skin lines, also referred to as “Skin Themes” are the “concept” or “alternate universe” to which a champion may belong. This way, skins do have a more meaningful impact on players and characters as well.
By creating a new different line of skins, a character won’t only get a new look; it will also be part of a different storyline along with other champions. The cool thing about this is that League of Legends already has an existing and expanding lore, where characters already have everything determined, where they come from and what other characters they interact with.
Skin themes change this, making any ideas and alternate universes go into life, and here, we’ll take a look at the best League of Legends skin lines.
How Many Skin Lines Exist?
Currently, in League of Legends, there are 108 skin lines, all of them contain a different combination of champions. As the years pass, Riot Games is making sure to deliver new skin themes for summoners to buy skins from. The fact that characters share a look and alternative lore is excellent for those who love playing with friends, whether in ranked matches or casual ones.
Some themes are unique, exclusive, or even complex. For example, the ones that commemorate the victory of a team in the Worlds tournament; the exclusive skins available in LoL: Wild Rift; or even a skin universe that has two lines, as is the case of “Event Horizon”, the alternate universe which contains the skins “Cosmic” and “Dark Star”.
The Best Skin Lines in League of Legends
The ever-growing number of skin Riot Games adds to League of Legends is exciting and always gives a chance for artists to display their work and imagination. Some of the best League of Legends skin lines are:
Pool Party
Pool Party is by far the most joyful and relaxing skin theme there is. Seeing so many characters from League of Legends at the beach or the pool makes us forget that they will fight to the death in the Summoner’s Rift.
Some of the characters from this skin theme are Lee Sin, Heimerdinger, Syndra, and much more. All of them have a different role in this narrative, Renekton is the life Guard; Singed is the excellent surfer; Lee Sin, Jarvan IV, and Sett are the handsome guys relaxing; and Braum is in charge of preparing the most delicious lemonades anyone at the pool party will ever try.
Star Guardian
Star Guardian is a cheerful skin line with these defenders ready to spark things up with their bright colors. The Star Guardian skin theme has brought many characters as they come up with more “Seasons” to this skin universe.
“Season 1” champions are Janna, Jinx, Lux, Lulu, and Poppy. Lux and Lulu were the first to bring their pajamas to the Star Guardian’s Head Quarters. Soon after the release of “Season 2”, the characters that came with it did the same, such as Ezreal, Miss Fortune, and Soraka. That way, they came up with their own Slumber Party.
Event Horizon
To understand how small planet earth is compared to the entire universe, Riot Games developed the Event Horizon concept, which splits into two skin themes, “Cosmic” and “Dark Star”.
Cosmics are beings who create life in galaxies and cherish it. The evil counterparts are corrupted entities whose only purpose is going galaxy after galaxy destroying planets and erasing all living creatures.
Something interesting about these skin themes is that a couple of the Cosmic were victims of temptations of corruptants such as Thresh. They once were Cosmics, now their only desire is destruction. These characters are Dark Cosmic Jhin Jhin, Lissandra, Lux, and Mordekaiser. And some of them are in our picks of the Most Played Champions in the Game.
Battle Academia
Some characters of this game are old, or at the very least, they're not teenagers anymore. Still, the Battle Academia skin theme shows us several of them with their most youthful appearances.
In this universe of skins, we find that there are several Academias that train mighty students. Here we see some familiar faces such as Lux, Ezreal, and a younger version of Jayce, different from the ones we find in his Best Jayce Skins. Academies, of course, need professors, which Graves is, and a principal, a title that Yuumi holds.
Music Skins
Riot Games has searched for ways to expand and fulfill many music-related projects. It all started with the fun yet straightforward skin theme “Pentakill” a sort of death metal band formed by Karthus, Kayle, Mordekaiser, Olaf, Sona, and Yorick.
After a comeback of the Pentakill universe, they decided to take things even further and form another band for both the game and real-life as well; we’re talking about K/DA. This band features the voices of real artists for their songs.
The characters members of this girl group are Akali, Kai’Sa, Evelyn, and Ahri. After some time, Riot Games released another band-themed skin line, True Damage.
The members of True Damage are Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, and Yasuo. True Damage also has a song called Giants, which, just as K/DA, had a live performance.
Lunar Revel
The Lunar Revel universe mixes cultural aspects of the Chinese New Year and the game’s Festivals of Iona, splitting into four skin themes which are: Lunar Revel, Lunar Revel: Firecracker, Lunar Revel: Warring Kingdoms, and Mecha Kingdoms.
In each of these skins, players can find a wide array of characters with unique and striking looks, especially those of the Mecha Kingdoms skin theme.
PROJECT
PROJECT is a concept with two skin lines: program and PROJECT. Some of the skins in the program line aren’t that impressive, but the real deal comes when we take a look at the PROJECT skins, it has 25 of them.
If we were to compare the deadly aesthetic of PROJECT and other skins, we could quickly put PROJECT: Lucian and High Noon Lucian side by side and notice the aura of massive destruction it brings. But if you want to check by yourself, you can see it in his Best Lucian Skins section.
Spirit Blossom
Spirit Blossom is one of the most beautiful collections of skins that can be found in League of Legends. The Ionian Spirit Blossom Festivals stories inspire these skin themes.
This concept divides into two lines: The Akana and the Kamei. In the Akana, we find Cassiopeia, Lilia, Riven, Thresh, and Vayne. For the Kamei skins, the characters are Teemo, Ahri, Kindred, Yasuo, and Yone.
World Championship
This is hands-down the skin universe with the most themes that there will probably ever be. The Worlds tournament skins come every year after a team's victory in the World Championship organized by Riot Games.
Throughout the years, characters have iconic looks representative of the team of summoners that played them and won. But there’s also an alternate skin universe where characters are given skins with this theme; an example is Championship Riven, one of The Hardest Champions to play in LoL.
