Caspian special tactics

Neutral game

Caspian uses two fast short ranged weapons. The key during the neutral game is gaining advantage, and both weapons have an optimal displacement potential. When using the katars play around dodge reads or your own dodges to catch the opponent. Short combos are easy to do with the katars and if directed correctly will throw the enemy offstage. The same goes for the gauntlets, with the slight difference that they carry even more force, making the neutral game quite controllable. Both weapons are great when used to dodge read, and aggression should be your priority. Defensive capabilities are subpar and it’s much better controlling the flow of the combat. Playing floaty is suggested. Use your down air to juggle enemies around, and the side air to push enemies around.

2

Offstage Game

Playing offstage can be quite threatening for the enemy, and Caspian weapons are optimal at dealing with offstage opponents. You can either attempt a return to stage, which is quite dangerous with short weapons such as these or play around the wall to bait the enemy into your attacks.

3

The side air and the down air are particularly good for dealing with floaty enemies. Using the ground pound or a gravity cancel into a signature attack can be done, but they are more risky methods.

Edgeguarding

Caspian can use dodge reading as an excellent edgeguarding technique. Wait around the edge and make your move when the enemy is returning to stage. You can also try a riskier approach, jumping down in offstage and intercepting the enemy with short strings using the down air or the side air.

Caspian Signature Moves and special tactics

Katars nSig

Caspian throws the katars upwards in a fan shape. This signature is quite quick and can be used in edgeguarding situations or to catch a floaty enemy. The force it’s not exceptional but it’s usually enough to throw the enemy in a complicated free falling situation where you can exploit the quickness of the katars.

Katars sSig

Caspian throws a knife forward. If the hit connects he will then jump in front of the opponent and take a swing at them. This signature attack it’s quite fast and has a pretty good force. The initial knife throw it’s also quite long. Use it to deal with grounded enemies or in niche offstage situations, after a gravity cancel.

Katars dSig

Caspian starts floating and then glides forward while dropping knives beneath him. Quite useful in edgeguarding situations, this attack will keep the enemy from returning to stage and set you in an advantageous position.

Gauntlets nSig

Caspian throws a bomb diagonally upward with an elegant motion. The explosive will detonate after a short while or when hitting an enemy. This signature can be useful in edgeguarding situations or when dealing with a floaty enemy, but if not timed perfectly can be quite hard to connect.

Gauntlets sSig

Caspian jumps forward while holding a bomb in his hand. If an enemy is intercepted he will proceed to attach the bomb to the opponent. The resulting explosion will send the enemy flying horizontally. Useful for dealing with grounded enemies.

Gauntlets dSig

Caspian throws a bouquet of bombs forward. The resulting action will push him back. This attack has an exceptional force, but can be hard to connect if not in close range. Use it to deal with grounded enemies or in edgeguarding situations.

Best Caspian Katars combos and strings

The katars is a fast weapon with great aerial control and important gimping capabilities. The range is short and they possess quite a few attacks that are effective when used very close to the enemy.

dAir > sSig

Start from aerial and use the down air to stun an enemy and put it in position for a devastating side signature. This combo has to be used on a grounded enemy, but it’s quite safe and efficient.

sLight > sSig

Variation of the first combo that instead starts from a grounded position. Works virtually identically to the other combo.

dSig

Use the down signature to deal with a returning to stage enemy.
