Best Jhala combos, strings, and combat tactics in Brawlhalla

Jhala left her hometown of Ikrusk after it was destroyed by the Lord of Scales, and she earned multiple titles throughout her life of conquest. In Valhalla, she fights for the thrill of it, using her trusty Axe and Sword.

If you want to know specific combos about Jhala’s weapons, check out our axe combos and strings and sword combos and strings guide.

Jhala stats and best stance

1

Jhala is an absolute glass cannon, with 7 Strength, and only 3 Defense. Her Dexterity is also an astounding 7, while her Speed average, sitting at 5. Jhala’s high Dexterity and Attack allow her to string together high damage strings, but she struggles if she doesn’t get ahead early.

Jhala special tactics

Neutral game

Jhala’s neutral game is all about spacing. Axe is hyper focused on hitting SLight, a medium-long range move, whereas Sword is very good at baiting out opponent’s moves with Dash Dance SLight, or Dash Dance DLight.

2

As said above, Jhala’s high Dexterity lends to her string potential, but her Signature Attacks also lend to that. Her Sword NSig, in particular, is a great example of this - With the Dexterity Stance selected, DLight>Jump> Gravity Cancel NSig is true, which has high damage, and early kill potential. Her Sword DSig is also very fast, and can be used to catch stacked opponents, which Sword generally struggles with.

Offstage Game

As always with Axe users, Jhala’s offstage capabilities are mediocre. Axe is practically useless in the air, and Sword is decent, but you shouldn’t really expect to be getting deep kills with Jhala.

3

You generally want to slam the opponent off the stage so hard that they KO without a chance to recover, if you’re not doing that, it’s risky to go offstage for a confirm.

Edgeguarding

Jhala’s edgeguarding is very strong. Her Sword has NSig and DSig, both of which can be briefly Slide Canceled to catch people below the stage, and her Axe has NSig for high recovery, and DSig for corner approaches.

4

Here’s a useful tip - if you aren’t already, get more familiar with Slide Canceling. Generally, people use it to dash at a 45 degree angle off the stage, but there is a surprising amount of variability. Try testing out different angles in Training - you can even dash in such a way where you slide right next to the wall, which is an excellent tech on Jhala.

Jhala Best Combos, Strings and Signature Moves

Not happy with Jhala but like her weapons?

Check out:

Jhala Signature Moves and special tactics

Axe nSig

Jhala jumps into the air, slashing sideways twice with her Axe. The Signature Attack is generally used for edgeguarding, reading, and string extensions.

Axe sSig

Jhala dashes forward, releasing a flurry of attacks along her path. Honestly, this is Jhala’s worst Signature Attack - I don’t really recommend using it.

Axe dSig

Jhala winds up for a quick burst of multiple swings, both in front and behind her. Great when Slide Cancelled, but not really the best Signature attack in Jhala’s kit.

Sword nSig

Jhala raises her sword triumphantly, releasing a burst of energy. This is the best Signature in Jhala’s kit - it’s true out of DLight, it’s great for edgeguarding, and it’s simply not punishable from above. Can also be Slide Cancelled against the wall for a scrape, but I wouldn’t recommend using this too often.

Sword sSig

Jhala prepares to leap forward, then lunges with her sword. Kind of like an upgraded version of Sword SLight, but stronger and slower. You can just use SLight instead, most of the time.

Sword dSig

Jhala strikes a brash pose, then sweeps at the ankles of her opponent. Like NSig, this Signature Attack is very strong, fast, and deadly - and can be used in a similar way on the wall.

Best Jhala Axe combos and strings

The Axe is a great weapon with important aerial capabilities mostly due to the excellent recovery and sAirs of the weapon. It can be played offensively, searching for gimps and juggling opponents in the air with dAirs and nAirs.

sLight > nSig

Great mixup for catching Spot Dodges, jumps, and reactions. Also works as a kill string at higher percentages.

dLight>nSig

Basically the same as above, but for dealing with players in the air. Can be used on the corner surprisingly well.

nLight>Chase Dodge>dSig

A smooth mixup at lower percentages. Useful against spot and inwards dodges.

Best Jhala Sword combos and strings

The sword is a string based, low range weapon. An agile blade with a peculiar dashing and air juggling based playstyle, it’s the perfect partner for aerial combat and fast grounded gameplay.

gp>Jump>Gravity Cancel nSig

A ground pound bounce into the very fast sword nsig, which has a lingering hitbox helping you catch the enemies.

sLight>dSig

One of Sword’s classic movement punishes. Use dash dancing to bait out an opponent’s attack, then slide in with sLight.

sLight>sSig

Similar to the above string, but works more consistently at higher percentages.

Jhala is one of the most fragile glass cannons in the game, but with that comes some of the strongest strings. If you’re really comfortable with her kit, you’ll be able to dominate pretty much any opponent.
